Zcash Shielded Assets: issuance, transfer, and the counterfeiting boundary

Abstract

Assuming the Orchard protocol of the Ironwood Guide and transaction construction from the Wallet Guide, this volume of The Zcash Arboretum documents Zcash Shielded Assets: per-asset value bases and asset identity, transparent issuance and finalization (ZIP-227), shielded transfer and burn (ZIP-226), and the split-note construction that guards the counterfeiting boundary. The upstream ZIPs are in flux — their transaction carrier was withdrawn and their fee terms removed upstream — so every claim is classified as specified, designed-but-unspecified, or open. Where ZIP text, fork text, and the implementation disagree, all three readings are stated and the divergence is flagged.
