This volume of The Zcash Arboretum describes the OrchardZSA protocol of ZIP 226 and ZIP 227, both with status Draft, as a delta on the Orchard protocol that the Ironwood Guide constructs. The protocol extends the Orchard protocol by the issuance, transfer and burn of Custom Assets. The volume constructs, in dependency order, the identity of an Asset; the note, its commitment and its value commitment, extended by the Asset Base; the Action statement and the Action Group; burn and the binding validating key; issuance and the global issuance state; and the status of the transaction carrier. It proves no counterfeiting across Assets, supply integrity, issuance authority and privacy of the Asset type under named assumptions. NU7, specified by ZIP 259 (Draft), introduces no transaction format and includes neither ZIP, so no network upgrade includes the protocol; its transaction format survives only in withdrawn text, and every construction is therefore classified as specified, designed but unspecified, or an open problem. The volume assumes the Math Guide; the Crypto Guide for signatures (§“Digital signatures”), Pedersen commitments (§“Commitment schemes”, §“The Pedersen commitment”) and random oracles (§“Hash functions and the random oracle model”); the Halo 2 Guide for the proof system; and the Ironwood Guide for the Orchard protocol. It is non-normative: the Zcash Protocol Specification, cited as the protocol specification with the title of a section, and the Zcash Improvement Proposals are authoritative.
